Serendipity

Imaginary portrait of a boy floating on the water. The uncertainty of the image induces the viewer to think about a boy swimming in the sea as well as about a memory from a dream, where the base concept is the fusion among the subject and the environment, a deep unity between things, where boundaries disappear.

Chinese writing

From the series “Zi hua”, oil on paper, 21 x 15 cm, 2016.

I wanted to learn to write Chinese characters, but I've lost control! I have always been fascinated by the art of ideograms, and when I was in China I spent hours and hours, enchanted to observe people trying to dip the brush into water, and to draw on the ground ephemeral signs intended to evaporate, with controlled and sensual movements. But my nature is baroque! The gesture that I started cannot be stopped, the hand begins to draw on the paper some convolutions, scrolls and doodles, at first timid, but soon prevailing over the same character and its meaning! And the gesture that remains, even if free and decorative, is extremely rewarding for me!

Hearts snowflake

An original piece from the series “Snowflakes”, ink and paint on paper, 30 x 30 cm, 2005.

Someone teaches us that the snowflakes are different from each other since we are small children. We learn that they are formed with a crystallization process that follows a geometric pattern that changes each time, indefinitely, never having the possibility of a repetition. The ice crystal takes shape slowly, expanding from a central point to the surrounding space, obeying to some strict symmetrical scheme, until all unallocated space is filled with these icy branches. What happens if in this process, the atoms of the water, in the meanwhile they are solidifying, encounter an obstacle, a slag, an impurity? Will it also remain trapped inside the grid? Will it be absorbed by this geometric cage, or would it be able to break the symmetry, imposing its diversity?

Relief number 1

An original piece from the series “Reliefs”, oil, ink and pencil on paper, 66 x 20 cm, 2003.

When we consider a road map or a map of the territory we note that they contain different information that are represented by different means, according to the purpose for which they were created: each time we find colors, symbols and words that recall a precise meaning. What happens if I take these techniques of representation, these symbols, and take off the scope for which they were created and mingle them with each other? Will it be for the reader a text in a foreign language, that is meaningless, or through the world of associations and references that each of us possesses, will generate a new language and associate to those images a new meaning?
In these paintings, in particular, I am interested in contours that highlight the points of the territory which are at the same elevation. In my works, they become the borders of different colors or shades, bringing out hidden shapes and concentric curves.

This original painting is available for sale at the price of 420 US$, shipping included. Contact me in case you are interested in more information about my work, the sales prices of individual works, or the availability for work on graphics.

The reading room

An original piece from the series “The reading room”, oil on canvas. 50 x 60 cm, 2021.

In the reading rooms I wanted to represent a very simple idea, namely how much the content of a book can acquire reality for those who are reading it, becoming as present as the true reality. For this reason the rooms have a view towards the outside and the concrete world. Only by painting them, I realized that those windows are not an opening, the external landscape does not count at all, and the room is a refuge. The reader is somehow protected from the outside world as in a shelter, and his reality is only inside the book.

Abandoned room

An original piece from the series "Abandoned rooms", oil on canvas. 50 x 50 cm, 2021. Original sold.

This series of paintings was inspired by the metaphysical landscapes of De Chirico. I have always been fascinated by their clear vision of the architecture, with the precise design of the shadows, almost anticipating the modern use of three-dimensional modeling software. In the way I feel, however, more introverted and almost unsociable, the outer space is transformed into a closed one, private and protected, from which the human presence has totally gone away. In those rooms then, it may happen that some strange objects and some unexpected decorations appear, suggesting that the person who lives there has overcome the lack of relationship to the outside world with the richness and complexity of his inner world.
